The book

House rules

This is my plain version of the rules, the terms, and the privacy note. It is not a lawyer’s document. Before I charge for a membership, I will have it checked.

What you can send

A note, a rating, or a photo has to be about the cooking. Your own words. Your own picture of the dish.

Do not send abuse, threats, or anything sexual. Do not send a photo of another person, or of a child, unless they would be happy for me to publish it. I will not put a child’s photo on the book.

I read every note before it is public. I can accept it, flag it, or leave it off the page. Flagged notes stay off.

There is no banned-user list yet, because there are no accounts yet. A name typed into a box is not a person I can eject. The note is what I remove. When memberships are real accounts, I will be able to refuse that account as well.

Terms

The recipes are for home cooking. The nutrition line is an estimate, not medical advice. If you have an allergy, you judge the ingredients yourself. I am not responsible for a result in your kitchen.

The dishes I wrote stay mine. If I accept your photo, you still own it. You let me show it on that dish, with your name, for as long as the book is up. You can ask me to take it down.

The book of recipes stays free. Premium will be a paid subscription: the weekly recipe, the members’ archive, and a recipe written to order. The pantry bundle will be an add-on. The price is not set. Nothing on the plans page takes a card yet. I will not charge until checkout works, and I will say the price before you pay.

When a membership is charged, you will be able to cancel it. If I take a payment before the membership works, I will give it back. Australian consumer law still applies.

Readers who are not members may see one small advertisement in the book. Members do not. I will not put an ad over a recipe, and I will not use a pop-up. An ad must be marked as an advertisement. No ad is loaded yet.

The book is written from New South Wales, Australia.

Privacy

Saved dishes, the grocery list, a note, and a photo stay on the phone that made them. I do not receive them on my phone yet, and I do not sell them.

If you tap “Use where I am”, the phone’s location is used once to name the suburb and look for supermarkets. I do not keep a map of where you cook.

A note asks for a name you choose, a rating, and up to forty words. A photo asks for that name and a short story. None of it is public until I accept it.

There is no account, so I cannot yet delete a note that lives only on your phone. You can clear it by removing the site’s saved data in the browser. When accounts exist, you will be able to ask me to delete what I hold.

When an advertisement is switched on, the company that serves it may know that a free reader opened the book. I will name that company here before the first ad loads. Members will not be shown that ad.
